Food, Parking, and Etc.

Ahoy – someone reminded me that this probably isn’t common knowledge, but just to be clear:

  • If you’re driving, you should park in the West Village Garage, which is right by the building. Check out the Directions page, where more specific maps / directions have just been added
  • There is some food in the building : Jamba Juice, Coyote Jack’s Grill, and Convenience Store on the first floor, and the Buffet style Cafeteria on the 2nd floor, all have some open hours on Saturday. I’ve been informed that there is an  ATM present, as well.
  • You can check out the specific hours, some of the menu, and most importantly,OMG PRICES, by just checking it out on the school’s Dining page, here.
  • I probably don’t have to say this, but common sense and courtesies in the open lobby / lounge area, yeah?
  • Less than 2 days away? … how did that happen?

Support a good cause with the Tiger Can Town project!

Ahoy hoy, all.

We’ve been contacted recently by a person attempting to organize a branch of the Can Town Project, a la’ Homestuck, for those meeting up at Tigercon. The deal seems to be that canned goods will be collected throughout the day, a town is made, and photographs of the awesomeness then taken.

This is pretty awesome, and the canned good will be donated to a local food bank, so hey, bring something in so they can build an epic castle of charity and goodwill!

More information about the entire Can Town Project can be found here, on their tumblr, or here, on their Facebook.

More information about the specific event being organized for Tigercon can be found right here, on the Tumblr.

Welcoming Reni Mimura!

Ahoy!

This year Tigercon will be welcoming J-Pop singer Reni Mimura, who specializes in a Moe style performance, which emphasizes the ‘cute’ look of Japanese pop culture, and the visual appeal of Japanese animation. Based in New York since 2008, Reni’s been a guest performer at various cons and events around the area, like Otakon, Anime Boston, and Sakura Matsuri – she’ll be gracing us with a performance, as well as a panel discussing J-pop and her performance style

We’re pretty excited to have her with us, so come on out and enjoy some cute music!

There’s more information, and videos, on her website, here : http://www.renireni.com/

Artist Alley is now closed

Hey there, artist people! We need to announce that the Artist and Vendor area is now closed!

At this point, though you can still fill out an application, we can only give you a table if one of the folks who have already done so end up cancelling or reducing their table count, in which case we’ll let you know.

As we said earlier, everyone who has filled out an application will have the space they asked for, and should have received a confirmation e-mail earlier this week. Please email us at tigerconevents@gmail.com if you haven’t, or you have any other questions!

The Geek Comedy Tour Returns!

Ahoy, everybody!

I am very excited to announce the return of the illustrious gentlemen of the Geek Comedy Tour, who will be with us again for this year’s Tigercon! I’m just gonna pull this from their site, because it’s pretty much what you need to know :

There was something amiss. For you see, they were all gigantic dorks, and comedy club crowds don’t fully appreciate jokes about comic books, anime, and video games. So, they’ve decided to let their freak flag fly, form together, and bring their geek jokes to the horde that needs them most.

Geek Comedy Tour

So yes – it’s really cool to have them back, and you should totally come out to see them on December 3rd! They are here for your lols.

Will Tigercon be having a Masquerade?

So, those of us planning the con had this discussion yesterday : do we want to have a Masquerade this year? I understand that it’s a pretty typical (at the cons I’ve been to, anyway) to have something like that, towards the end of the day, as a main event.

However, for the moment, we’ve decided against planning for one, UNLESS we hear alot of interest from people definitely willing to participate in one. So, yeah, for the sake of scheduling as much quality stuff as we can, we aren’t prioritizing a Masquerade at this moment.

If, however, you or a group is interested in participating in such an event, LET US KNOW as soon as possible, either here, or on the Facebook group (Have I mentioned we have one of those?), or at our email, Tigerconevents@gmail.com (options, people, options) and if we hear back from enough people to warrant it, we’ll definitely reconsider it.

The West Village Commons

Thought I’d make a new post.

The space we have reserved on campus for the event is the new West Village Commons building – a brand spanking new, four floor architectural behemoth wrought of so much glass I can only guess at what the anthropologists of the future will think of us. I won’t say it isn’t gorgeous, though.

This building will apparently eventually replace our beloved University Union building, which serves as a sort of central space, well, a hub really, for the campus. I haven’t been inside it yet (it’s closed until classes start next week), but I’ve walked BY it (which is something … right?), and it looks pretty impressive. It seems the first two floors will contain eateries, so at least nobody will go hungry on the day of.

ALso, I have heard an absurd amount of excitement about the campus getting a Jamba Juice. :-/
